This semester, I'll be taking on one of my biggest challenges: creating a pitch to be approved by my art program which will become my senior thesis. One of my ideas I'd like to pitch for approval will be a propaganda piece themed "Dare to Hope Again". It's no secret that in 2025, we in the West suffer from many afflictions. This comes in the form of civil unrest and degradation, destroyed communal trust, hopelessness, despair, anxiety, nihilism, the list goes on. A point I want to make is a call back to Christ because I believe many of our problems exclusively stem from abandoning him as a society and culture. Christ is the bridge from despair to Hope, hope in a better future that this course we are on can be corrected.
The above image board is my attempt to visually convey that message. I did my best to reflect on the current zeitgeist and then find images which opposed that. I found many images which I felt represented current despair and and tangible, realistic images of hope. While filtering which images to apply to my image board, I discovered something quite uplifting. Before I reveal this truth, take a moment to dig a little deeper than what is on the surface.
I discovered that the images of hope outnumber the images of despair.
This was not by design, I promise. As mentioned before, I found plenty of disparaging images, but I just so happen to find more examples of things to give hope. This was also representative of the folders I stored each thematic image in. Images of Despair at a count 29 and Images of Hope at 45. Each image is symbolic of a reason to feel hopeless or hopeful. This revelation is something I wanted to share with you all. As easy as it is to blackpill over what is happening now, and there are many valid reasons to, we have more reasons to hope and rejoice. If you have trouble taking that first step, turn to Christ. He is the bridge between despair and hope.
